Kamiel qualifies for World Championships in cold and rainy RotterdamApril 10th 2005 - Running a solid 2.12.50, Kamiel Maase qualified for this year's world championships in Helsinki. Despite his far from ideal preparation (because of injuries this past winter), Kamiel hoped for a faster time in Rotterdam. However, the weather proved to be far from ideal as well. It was a windy and rainy 25th edition of the Rotterdam marathon. Top favorite Felix Limo finished only 3rd in a time of 2.09.01, 1.12 behind his countryman Jimmy Muindi. Kamiel ran a safe race in the 3rd group with all the Dutch elite athletes. The half marathon split was on schedule with 1.05.50, but no one was able to run a negative split. With the Spanish Ziani Kamiel managed to catch a number of the front runners in the last 10 kilometers and thus moved up in the field. Dutch road runner Jeroen van Damme was not far behind, but didn't prevent Kamiel from winning his 2nd Dutch marathon title.

| Heel mooi gedaan, Kamiel! Natuurlijk was je niet in topvorm, maar het resultaat is goed genoeg om je vertrouwen te geven voor Helsinki. Nu eerst even lekker bijkomen!
Het is achteraf praten, maar zou een thermohemd bij dit koude en natte weer maagproblemen hebben voorkomen? |
