Kamiel breaks own marathon record in Amsterdam!

October 21st 2007 - Kamiel has broken his own marathon record in the Amsterdam marathon. The preparation was good, the test races showed good shape, the weather was good and the pace set by Michel Butter was fast. Along the Amstel river there was a little headwind than expected, but Kamiel sat 'comfortably' in the back of the leading group. At the 29 km mark the group broke apart. Despite running the remainder of the race alone Kamiel managed to keep his pace at record schedule, cheered by the crowd that knew he was going to write running history again. Emmanuel Mutai won the 32nd ING Amsterdam marathon in a superb 2.06.29. Kamiel entered the stadium as 9th and broke the former Dutch national record (Amsterdam 2003 by Kamiel) by exactly 10 seconds. This also means that Kamiel has met the the criteria for the Olympic marathon of Beijing. Claartje finished her very first marathon as 10th in 2.50, so the fans and family had a lot to celebrate in the Olympic stadium.

Jos
