Kamiel solid 3rd in tough Egmond raceJanuary 14th 2007 - The 35th edition of the famous Egmond Half Marathon was another one for history books. The wind had been blowing all week and blew mostly from aside. No rain or snow like in earlier editions. The main problem was the tide being very high, leaving the athletes only a few meters (of loose sand) to run. These circumstances had their influence on the race, because after 3 km in the town of Egmond a big group hit the beach for 7 very difficult kilometers. Kamiel took the lead and only a couple of African athletes managed to stay with him. On another tough section, leaving the dunes after 19 kilometers and going uphill with a strong headwind, Eshete Wondimu sprinted away from Maase and Wirimai. After winning last year's edition in a sprint, Kamiel was satisfied with a 3rd place and a time of 1.04.34. Now it's back to training for the Lake Biwa marathon in Japan, on march 4th. To be able to focus fully on training Kamiel will fly to Portugal with his trainer Bram Wassenaar soon.
